Finishing the portion of Paul’s letter that deals with his Apostolic defense, we witness Apostles rebuking and exhorting one another according to the application of Gospel truth at the Church in Antioch. Antioch was a diverse Church. Diverse in that day meant the union of both Jew and Gentile into one community of believers, knit into the body of Christ by faith. Drawing these two peoples together into one body was the work of the Gospel attested by the power of the Holy Spirit. But when ‘certain men’ from Jerusalem showed up, Peter returned to his old habits of separation. He withdrew from the Gentiles. What does this have to do with Paul’s argument of Apostolic Defense? And on a practical note, what does it mean for us today to keep in step with Gospel truth by showing no partiality?
