Are we not a generation in search of purpose? Christianity answers this question unlike anyone else. Human beings were made in the image of God to actively share in the reign and rule over everything God has made, and this in the relational context of love, joy, peace, righteousness and blessedness. The history of redemption continues with the fall of mankind, defacing the image of God in man, corrupting the relationship we have with each other and all that God has made and alienating us from God and all that was enjoyed in Him. The redemption of sinners to God through Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is a spring sunrise of new life with a clear purpose; to declare the glory of God with all that is within us. But here is the scratch in the record; when we thank God for being made in his likeness, rejoice in the forgiveness of our sins through Jesus Christ and then go right back to living for ourselves with the delusion that it is good, right and pleasing to God. Or worse, we never learn the end for which Christ died for us, that we may be a people set apart to declare the glory of His Name!
Your life matters. The proof is the price paid for your redemption. Do you want to know why and what to do in response? This sermon was preached by Clay Thompson at St Jude’s Anglican Church in Huntersville, NC on February 28th, 2020.
