Christianity holds to a foundation once laid. Jesus Christ is the cornerstone, the absolute necessity for any “building” to be the God’s. The witness of the Prophets (foretelling) and Apostles (proclaiming) extend from the Cornerstone to form the foundation once laid for all Christians in all places and all times (Ephesians 2:19-21).

Enter the Church in Corinth. What a remarkable mission field! The Apostle Paul planted the Church in Corinth on his second missionary journey and history tells the tale of a troubled Church notorious for backsliding and division. But Paul loved the Church in Corinth. And I believe that the first few chapters of 1 Corinthians summarize Paul’s exhortation to the Lord’s Church in Corinth. They are to return to the word of the cross in the way of the cross through the power and testimony of the Holy Spirit.

This is the third of three sermons on 1 Corinthians Chapters 1 through 4. This sermon was preached by Clay Thompson at St Jude’s Anglican Church in Huntersville, NC on February 9th, 2020.
