One of the many mistakes we make in theology, the study of God, is casting God in our own image. We tend to think of God as a bigger version of ourselves. The root of this error is ignorance of, or unbelief in, the distinction between God as infinite and man as finite. God is the author and creator of all things and we are part of his creation (uniquely bearing his image on the earth!). This distinction remains unto eternity. But God in his love has made himself know to us. And when we grasp but a measure of the love of God for us we can exclaim with the Psalmist, “such knowledge is too wonderful for me!”. What makes this knowledge so wonderful is that it is divine. Have you tasted it? This sermon on Psalm 139 was preached by Clay Thompson at St Jude’s Anglican Church on January 26th.
